Name: Lance Door: Door Pass: Dominant Canon: Voltron: Legendary Defender Canon Point: End of Season 7 Age: 18 Appearance: now that's a boy i can get behind History: here. Personality: + PERCEPTIVE. Lance doesn't seem like the type to be observant or perceptive. He constantly makes jokes that don't fit the mood, and he seems really selfish. However, Lance is just the opposite: He's able to read the room, the mood, and his fellow paladins' emotions fairly well. Lance wants to make people feel better, support them, and while he seems like just "the dumb one" or "the goofball," Lance pays attention to his surroundings. It's what makes him such an excellent sharpshooter--and friend. Lance is best at being support, which makes him the perfect fit for Voltron's right hand man. He observes his surroundings with a keen eye, and if he senses that someone is down, he does what he can to try to cheer them up. He can remember specifics of a mission, and when someone attempts to rush in, Lance is there to pull them back and get them to calm down. He's there to offer a comforting word when needed--and he is good at it. - REPRESSIVE. When Lance represses, he represses to an extreme amount. He very rarely shows what he perceives as weakness. There are a few moments when Lance lets his feelings show--these moments are shown only with people he absolutely trusts (Keith and Allura). Still, Lance puts up on arrogant, egotistical front--we'll get to that below--in order to avoid drawing attention to his real emotions. It's likely that he considers showing his own anxieties and, really, depression, to be a sign of weakness. And if Lance shows weakness, he runs the risk of weakening the whole time. He's the right hand of Voltron, after all. Keith needs him to be strong, and if he isn't, does he truly deserve to hold such an important position? Lance doesn't like showing vulnerability, and if he does, he quickly covers it up with his usual front. - ARROGANT. And now to Lance's arrogance. It's definitely off-putting, especially to people he flirts with. And Lance is absolutely a flirt; he's weak to beautiful women, and in order to draw attention to himself, he's loud and egotistical. Lance even invents a rivalry against Keith in order to make himself seem better than he thinks he is. Lance takes great pride in his physical appearance; early on in the series, he sleeps through a test alarm and is shown with a face mask on, sound asleep in bed. And when he does finally show up, it's obvious he's gone through his usual beauty routine. Lance tries to make himself look as cool as he can, and then more... which results in his, sometimes, being manipulated all to easily. (It's how he nearly loses the Blue Lion for good, early in the series: He showed off too much to a pretty alien and got himself tied to a tree.) Lance strives to impress, mostly because... - INSECURE. ... of his insecurity. In truth, Lance has a very poor opinion of himself. After all, he initially starts out as just comic relief. Even though his initial lion was found first, and he is technically the first of the new generation of paladins, Lance doesn't believe in himself. He's constantly putting himself down, and he often doesn't think he's good enough for anyone or anything. Consider when Lotor and Allura start showing interest in each other: Lance very clearly states that he has nothing to offer, that he's just a boy from Cuba. And even before that, Lance is very aware of the fact that if Keith had stayed in the Garrison, Lance would be nothing more than a cargo pilot. Lance has unfairly high expectations of himself, and when he can't measure up, it takes its toll on him. While Lance puts on a front, he's shockingly aware of what he perceives as mistakes, and as a result, he bolsters himself on the outside. In reality, he's severely anxious about measuring up or being good enough or doing enough. Powers and Abilities: Lance has a connection with the Red Lion, as its second paladin. Lance is an excellent sharpshooter, able to hit very small targets (which impresses even his hero, Takashi Shirogane). His skills of observation are nearly unmatched; he can analyze situations from afar and provide directions and support, and he can provide a plan on the fly. Lance is also good at judging when caution and stealth are required to get the job done. Despite Keith's saying Lance is "the worst pilot ever" in the first episode, Lance is actually a pretty good pilot in his lion. There's also, uh. This .gif of beauty, which really needs no explanation. Inventory: Bayard (which can turn into a sniper rifle), paladin armor. Samples: with allura (thinking). with pidge (communicating). |
